Have you been wondering what our SMALL CITY, BIG IDEAS branding is all about?

In 2017, twelve local organizations, including the City of Salmon Arm, came together to form the Brand Leadership Team. This team set out to develop a community brand and marketing strategy which residents, businesses, organizations, and local government could collectively support. With the common goal of attracting new talent and investment, the team worked to draw out Salmon Arm’s competitive advantages and our unique and authentic story. Following a year-long process led by a global leader in place-based branding, the team arrived at the differentiating characteristics and competitive advantages of Salmon Arm: We are a small city with big ideas!

Through this process, data was collected in 40 economic indicator categories and Salmon Arm was benchmarked against 11 comparative communities. Here’s how we ranked:
• #1 in prosperity indicators – a measure of income, opportunity and innovation
• #1 for high-technology manufacturing employment
• #1 for safety – a measure of the major crime index
• #2 for ease of commute

WHAT DOES OUR WORDMARK REPRESENT?

Our Salmon Arm wordmark embodies the many contrasts of our city, like quiet and cutting-edge, opportunity and lifestyle, nature and business, technology and arts. This juxtaposition is represented through the slanted “N” dividing “Salmon” and “Arm”, as well as the through the use of our brand colours. The brand colours are inspired by our city’s mix of innovation and natural surroundings. The Salmon Arm Orange represent vibrancy and creativity, where the Ida Blue and Lakeshore Blue reflect our natural environment, the water and mountains. This choice of colours inspired by nature is also a reflection of our community’s commitment to sustainability and the protection of our environment.
